Austin's visit

My cousin Austin came a few weeks ago for the weekend, and we had a great time. Here are some of our adventures.

Austin and Dusty at Four Peaks

Our Food at Four Peaks...7 Barrel Fries

Carne Adovada
Cherry wood smoked slow roasted pork simmered
in red chili sauce with rice, beans and warm flour
tortillas.

Salmon BLT

Grilled, blackened salmon, hickory smoked
bacon, lettuce, tomato, pepper jack cheese
and pesto mayo served on twelve grain.

Shrimp Carbonara

Sautéed shrimp tossed with pancetta, peas
and pasta in a garlic cream sauce, garnished
with diced tomato and parmesan, served with
garlic bread.

Love, Love Love Four Peaks the best food and great service!

Saturday we went to the river, Dusty lost his shoe so we searched the rest of the way down for one that might work so he could walk to the bus and this is the closest we found to fitting a womens flip flop maybe a size 8 or 9. It worked, he did have blisters after but at least he didn't burn the bottom of his feet

Dusty, Austin and I on the way home from the river

All the boys passed out after the river

Asian Cafe Express

By the name of this place I would have NEVER tried it. But it was in the Phoenix Magazine for best Asian dish and so away we went. SO GOOD!! I recommend it and it was pretty cheap!

For appetizers we had crab puffs...which we eat to fast so no pic and Dusty had to have some chicken wings. I have no comment on the wings since I refuse to eat them but the crab puff was excellent!

We ended up getting a family meal...It was just Dusty and I but hey we wanted left overs for dinner. This is the Chicken Lo Mein
Sweet and Sour Pork with onions, carrots and peppers
Broccoli shrimp cooked with carrots in a light sauce
Chicken Fried Rice
And here it all is for just the two of us. People kept looking at us like we had never eaten before with all the food. I think going family style is the best way!

STAX Burger Bistro

Our "Culinary Adventure" took us to Stax Burger Bistro http://www.staxburgerbistro.com/ in Old Town. We have been past this restaurant so many times and just tried it out. Their burgers are pretty small a little bigger then a slider and so you try a few at a time

For starters we had the hummus and pita bread. I am having this weird craving for hummus lately, I CAN NOT GET ENOUGH! I eat it everywhere.

We decided to share 4 burgers, from left to right we have:

Short Rib with provolone cheese, horseradish and onion rings.

Turkey Burger infused with spinach, feta cheese, yellow red bell peppers topped with provolone cheese, grilled pineapple fresh guac and pico de gallo.

Shrimp Po'Boy Beer battered shrimp with melted pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onion and red pepper.

Lamb Colorado lamb topped with feta cheese, grape tomato

Mac n' Jack, Macaroni and pepper jack cheese Horsey Slaw

This was a real contemporary place, and very open and airy. I highly recommend it!

Eyebrow Gel...my favorite

I use Mary Kay everyday...and for the most part LOVE everything Mary Kay. They just rolled out this new product that I got and am LOVING IT!! I have always struggled to keep my eyebrows straight and hate pictures of me when my eyebrows are out of line. I think I learned a trick from Lyndsey years ago to spray a little hairspray on your finger tips, run it across your brow and then get a comb to make it all perfect. Every time I do that I tend to break out in my brow. Well this little number does the trick and it comes with a mascara brush inside to make everything just perfect! Had to post because this is my new favorite product!

Tana and Richard Mardi Gras Engagement party

Our friends Rich and Tana had their engagement party the other day and it was everything Mardi Gras. They are our friends getting married in Cabo 6-11-11. It was a lot of fun to see everyone and their masks. Dusty picked ours out, I told him they had to be a couple theme and he could do the rest.

So this is what he picked, his had blood all over it and mine had splatter spots of blood

The Father of the Bride and I, he had a wig, makeup, mask and some kind of Mardi Gras outfit on.

The Bride and I

The Bride and her sister SHALISE...yes her sister is also named Shalise. Just spelled different then me.

Casey and all his beads, he decided to pack them all on and wear them. He said they were actually quite heavy.

The whole group!

Blanco's Tacos and Tequila

On Saturday we had our "Culinary Adventure" as Dusty loves to call it at Blanco's Tacos and Tequila in Scottsdale. This is one of the 85 Best Restaurants in Phoenix, and it was GOOD however the service wasn't that great. We sat out on the patio and saw about 10 different waiters before one offered to take our drink orders.

When they named this restaurant one of the 85 they also mentioned to have their cheese crips cause they are to die for. AND I am here to say that yes, yes they are to die for. We had the Chipotle Shrimp and Corn cheese crip.

We shared the Carnitas tacos with pico de Gallo and Crema Fresca
and the Grilled Fish tacos with avocado and Pico de Gallo

Visiting the Terry's

Last weekend we went and visited Rusty, Jessica and Dax since they have been staying in Page we thought it would be a quick ride up and then be able to hang out then a quick ride home. Well, we have learned our lesson about checking the weather of not only our destination but the cities in between. I had looked up how the weather would be in Page so I would know what kind of clothes to take, I didn't think to look up Flagstaff which was in between us and Page.

This was the picture I took after we had just slid off the road going about 60, I thought for sure we were going to roll and or die. We were going to fast and started sliding so instead of hitting the semi in the lane next to us Dusty slid us into the median and then we were stuck in the snow. He had to get out and push and finally got us out and then I decided to stop in the middle of a mud river and we happened to get stuck there to. So Dusty had to push us out again, he was wearing shorts and a short sleeved shirt. Poor guy, but we were ok and that is all that matters :) Another reminder of why we live in Arizona and do not have to deal with the snow.

Cortez came with us and he hates HATES it when Dusty chews gum. I don't know why but he can't stand to even look at him when he has gum in. Dusty happened to be chewing gum and so Cortez decided to climb up on my shoulder so he didn't have to look at Dusty. I thought it was funny so I took a picture. He thought he was a parrot.

Dusty and all the mud on his legs and shoes because of pushing us out

And my best friends Pride and Joy, meet Dax Rusty Terry :)

Thanks for letting is visit Jess and Rusty, we will be making a visit soon once the weather wants to cooperate with us.

My Valentines Day

I had a pretty AWESOME Valentines Day, I consider myself pretty lucky in life to be married to my husband and to always have him as my Valentine. As you can see over the weekend we had went to a bed a breakfast to celebrate. I had school on Monday night and was pretty excited when I got my first test back with 100% across the top. When I got home Dusty was making me dinner.

Dusty never has to send me flowers on Valentines because my Mom and Fred always get me flowers and make sure I have some fresh ones every year. It is a gorgeous arrangement.

This is our dessert, Dusty's version of homemade Blueberry Pie, in a smaller version.
We had watched My Blueberry Pie on Sunday and so he decided to make some.
Dinner: Salad with red peppers and tomotoes, homemade chicken cordon blue and french bread with mozarella

Jerome, AZ

For Valentines we decided to go and check out Jerome. We have never been and have several friends that go to this little town on a regular basis. We stayed at a little bed a breakfast, and it was amazing. For those of you who don't know where Jerome is at it is about 90 mins north west of Phoenix just west of Cottonwood. It is built on the side of the mountain and is a old miners town.

This is our room, it was so cozy and warm

Our bathroom

The view from some of the shops as the sun was going down

At the end of the street is a restaurant that we eat at. My camera died and so no pictures of our amazing food.

Some of the streets there

This is a old film player, it was so cool looking
